strategies
The civil society’s contribution to the monitoring of the UNGASS-AIDS goals has been done in two different ways. Besides contributing theoretical and politically for policies implementation, there have been great effort to share the knowledge produced, and for that, has been facing the challenge of having the information and the contents they produce shared, in order to be used as a tool of mobilization and social control.
To support all the activities and to mobilize and involve civil society and other partners there were developed some communication tools:
* Discussion lists to share information, reports and decisions from the meetings with ministries, AIDS commissions and strategic partners:
• ungass_international@yahoogroups.com
• ungass_lac@yahoogroups.com
• ungass_brasil@yahoogroups.com
* A bi-monthly newsletter that was published last year on the actions of the project in the countries. Both Gestos and the partners have written notes, articles and news to provide inputs to the communications vehicles of the project (site, newsletter, blog.), preferably on critical and representative issues of local realities. This newsletter was sent to UN organisms, WHO, local governments, regional organisms, etc;
* A mailing of government, civil society, UN agencies and other relevant representations that they consider interesting to include in this promotion strategy;
* Blogs to socialize news and reports and to permit partners and people interested to comment, discuss and use the content to make a social control in a local and international basis.
The creation and improvement of AIDS public policies has become a critical issue in most countries which show the great discrepancy between the speed of actions execution planned by the governments.
Between 2007 and 2009 this project directly mobilized approximately 700 civil society organizations that had the opportunity to know the compromises established in the UNGASS-AIDS and deepen the discussion about their own AIDS and SRH national policies.
