AIDS must be addressed not only as a health-related problem, but as a human rights and development issue. All governments must address gender equality as a critical factor to the attainment of development and sustainability and the elimination of poverty, interrelated with, and as important as, peace, human rights and security. All actions toward these goals must be conceived in a gender perspective and partnerships must be formed with political, religious and other leaders to establish common advocacy messages for policy and for the protection of the human rights of women and girls.

The results of the project shows that the use of international instruments is a useful and effective way of organizing the dialogue between civil society and governments. It is possible to articulate several different segments in order to undertake actions that have an impact on the epidemic at the country level, not just restricting them to the AIDS movement or to Health sectors.

Between 2007 and March 2010, we have directly mobilized approximately 700 civil society organizations which have had the opportunity to get educated and informed about the commitments made at the UNGASS-AIDS to deepen the discussion on their own national policies on AIDS and SRH.

The results obtained were made possible by the efforts and dedication of the coordinating organizations of each country. They developed partnerships with Gestos based on the idea of collective construction, and with local autonomy for determining priorities in the execution of research and advocacy strategies.
